Random Things That Annoy Me

Because life is full of annoying crap, and this is my place to complain about it.
I've been receiving free copies of Newsweek in the mail, unsolicited, for the last two months or so.  I would even use Newsweek to line a birdcage (the magazine's already loaded with crap).  But today, they sent an invoice offering to continue to send me issues if I pay up.

Personally, I want them to pay me, for the time I had to spend dropping their magazine in the trash every time it shows up.

Can anyone explain why there are so many car insurance commercials on TV?  Are the margins that high in the business?

Many of the commercials are more entertaining than many network TV shows -- Cavemen was bad, but networks greenlight much more offensive shit pretty regularly, and some of it stays on TV for years (Full House was on television for what seemed like a decade). I just find it offensive that writing talent is being wasted on car insurance commercials... says the guy toiling away on a blog for no reason, but whatever.

Today's Random Disturbing Thought

I'm at home hanging out with my daughter today, and was playing Candyland with her just before she went down for a nap.  As we're playing, my daughter draws the card with an ice cream cone and Princess Frostine on it.  This is a most certainly a good thing, since it means the game will end sometime before June (see here for a detailed description of how much of a nightmare the game can be due to its length).  But I happened to take a close look at the card for the first time, and came to the disturbing conclusion that Princess Frostine would probably end up getting arrested for solicitation in many parts of America.
