What Annoying Song Is Stuck In My Head Today?

If I need to suffer with a song stuck in my head, why shouldn't you have to do the same? Sometimes they're good, most times they're bad... but no matter what, they make you suffer. So I like to share the suffering whenever it happens.

Three thoughts about this song:

1. Years ago, I remember watching an MTV special where they classified Nelson's "After The Rain" as the worst song of the MTV era -- beating out Milli Vanilli offerings, for crying out loud. What's scary is that this song is exponentially worse.

2. Somewhere, there's a Beavis and Butthead clip where they mock Nelson for looking like a couple chicks. Wikipedia noted that they were mocked for being Ozzy's granddaughters, which would have killed Ozzy if he wasn't drugged up.

3. It really scares me that this song hit #1 in 1990. I mean, people weren't doing nearly as many drugs as in the 1970's or 1960's, yet this crap hit #1?

Not That There's Anything Wrong With That

Someone at the left-wing dishrag had way too much fun writing this headline: Gay Guardsman Has Returned to Drills With His Unit. (hat tip: Tom Maguire) In their defense, I'm not sure that my high school paper would have passed on that headline, either.

TV Nostalgia of the Day

A new series, inspired by loyal reader ST. These are the moments of television past that YouTube was designed to bring back to us.

Beavis and Butthead appeared on TV back when I was in college. Put simply, people either hated the show or loved it. I like low-brow humor, but I also think Mike Judge and Co. were doing a pretty decent commentary on society while allowing us to laugh. But that discussion is for another time. For now, let's look back at one of their better video reviews...

I'm not sure why this song got airplay today, but I heard it on the radio today and immediately flashed back to the video. No, there was nothing special about the video itself -- the thiong was typical '80's cheese. Remember back in the '80's, when the tag for the video would appear in the corner of the screen, it would say the name of the song, the name of the artist, the name of the album, and the name of the label. For this song, it always said:

Living in a Box
Living in a Box
Living in a Box
[Record Label Name]

Couldn't they have just re-named the label?

Beyond that, this song will almost certainly get stuck in your head. Plus, the title will lead to at least one Beavis-like chuckle from someone reading this.

Remember, This State Kept Re-Electing Ted Kennedy

I once received a summons for jury duty while living in Massachusetts. I remember seeing a lot of people in the courthouse that day, but no animals...

A family is trying to figure out how their pet cat was summonsed for jury duty.

“I said, Sal, what’s this? You know, I don’t believe it I was shocked,” said Guy Esposito, Sal’s owner.

Sal’s owners, Guy and Anna Esposito, think they may know the source of the mix up: Sal really is a member of the family, so on the last Census form, Anna Esposito listed him under “pets”.

“I just wrote ‘Sal Esposito’, scratched out the ‘dog,’ and wrote, ‘cat,’” said Anna.

Anna filed for Sal’s disqualification of service. However, the jury commissioner was unmoved and denied the request.
Well, it is Massachusetts. I wonder if all the registered voters in Boston who are dead are excused from jury duty.

Somewhere, Beavis and Butthead are Laughing

Loyal reader ST sends along this story with the spectacular headline: The North Face Sues The South Butt for Trademark Infringement. Here's the sordid tale...
The North Face Apparel Co. has filed a trademark infringement suit against a teen who started a company called The South Butt to help pay for college.

The North Face’s tag line is “Never Stop Exploring'' while The South Butt sells products with the tag line “Never Stop Relaxing,” according to the
Associated Press. The South Butt’s founder, Jimmy Winkelmann, has said the fleece jackets and other clothing sold by his company are intended to mock people who wear brand-name clothing sold by outfitters like The North Face, the Missourian reports.

In The South Butt's
online disclaimer, the company distances itself from The North Face, concluding: "If you are unable to discern the difference between a face and a butt, we encourage you to buy North Face products."
You know the headline writer enjoyed coming up with that line. I don't know whether I should be upset or happy that the South Butt didn't use North Face's actual tagline -- it would be far funnier but also a tad disturbing. I won't comment on the merits of the lawsuit, but I think the appropriate venue has to be Butte, Montana.

Trust me when I say that having children has its upside. The downside is when a song like this gets stuck in your head. My daughter likes watching the video because pacifiers and gummi bears are prominently involved. I find the video almost as disturbing as the song, even though the Beavis and Butthead part of my psyche secretly laughs at the title. If someone could arrange for the beating of the person who came up with the song, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Al Gore

On the list of items you can only find on the Internet...
Honestly I have no idea who made these. I found them in some random forum. But come on. When someone takes the time to make all these wacko demotivational posters with a Bon Jovi theme combined with anime? Let’s just say there has to be a place on the internet for this crap.
(hat tip: Jonah Goldberg) Can't argue with the last sentance.
