What Annoying Song Is Stuck In My Head Today?
If I need to suffer with a song stuck in my head, why shouldn't you have to
do the same? Sometimes they're good, most times they're bad... but no matter
what, they make you suffer. So I like to share the suffering whenever it
happens.
I'm in a country mood today. Not even sure why. But when in doubt, go with it. And this video's worth watching anyway.

The downside to having daughters? No matter what the age, they're susceptible to boyband music.
The good news? After awhile, I'm guessing every one of these songs sounds the same.

Not sure why this is stuck in my head right now, but it's easily one of the more annoying songs of the 1980's. It's also one fot he most annoying videos, so it's pretty consistent in its artistic value.

One of my favorite songs, from the Rolling Stones, was playing this morning as background music on a show I was watching. Love this tune, love the lyrics.

I'm wondering if it may be worthwhile to start a new run of these posts, based around the concept of music that I'm still fond of for no discernible reason, largely culled from my high school years. I'm pretty sure this song would be a great example.

Give Maroon 5 credit -- Mick Jagger's moves are weird enough that they are worthy of a song. And the song is as memorable/annoying as Mick's moves.

My high school reunion was last weekend -- #20, which makes me feel pretty old. I didn't attend, continuing a tradition I established when I skipped the five year reunion. My lack of nostalgia is furthered by the fact that I'm now closer to being the father of a high school senior than I am to being one; I can mourn my hairline without any company.
But here's a little nostalgia from right around 1992 -- a song I rarely hear any more, but one that does indeed stay with me whenever I hear it.

Based on the fact that this was seemingly the song of the summer and parodied endlessly via video, it's safe to say it needs no introduction. Hell, it defines the category. And worst of all, my five year old loves the song. So in case it was finally out of your heads... here you go.

Some songs are annoying, but you don't actually mind too much. This meets that standard, especially since the videot isn't half-bad. Discounting the production quality (which is way better than what you saw in the past), this is the type of dedication to a good video we saw back in the 80's. Kudos.

I'm pretty sure this song was created to be part of this feature... assuming Gotye reads this blog. Which he clearly does -- I think the sadness in the song comes from a one year gap between blog posts.

I've never spent a lot of time listening to Fuel, but they are technically a Pennsylvania band, so I probably should give them a little love on that basis. And this is actually a pretty good song, even if it was hideously overplayed in the early part of the last decade... actually, this was about the time I stopped listening to music on the radio regularly, so this is one of the last songs where I can make that statement.

Heard the song at the grocery store, and the song is annoying. The video most certainly is not, although it requires me to suspend some disbelief, because I have trouble believing record company execs, even in the late 80's, would have found this risque in the extreme. Today, it barely registers as titilating. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, it just is.
As an aside, something I noticed for the first time while watching it again: while the execs are obviously growing increasingly uncomfortable throughout the course of the video, the focus of the orchestra is awesome by contrast. Sweet little things like that make for a good music video.

I attended Back To School Night for my daughter last night, which is still a surreal experience (beyond the basic "I'm really a parent" portion of the experience, there's also the moment when your child's teacher tells you things about your kid that you didn't know, like she's mastered calculus already! Okay, just kidding on the last part... I think). Anyway, they had a video montage playing that featured this song.
A couple things. First, I hate Rod Stewart's music generally -- I just find it annoying, and this song's near the top of the list of Stewart songs I hate. With that being said, I recall this song as being the theme song at my seventh grade dance, which wasn't all that bad as far as seventh grade dances go. But it's kind of scary to think it's still in rotation for use as a crappy attempt to tug at your emotions 25 years later -- I mean, the song sucks almost as bad as anything by the Scorpions.

I ran the Navy Five Miler in Arlington yesterday, and actually made it through the entire race without collapsing, crying like a small child, or incurring any significant injuries. Yes, I finished well back in the pack, but my goal was survival. I like to keep things simple.
Anyway, this played as we crossed the starting/finish line during part of the race (the course doubled back in several places). It's also a personal favorite, and helped make up for the silly announced rules of the race that said one could not wear an audio device while running (which was not enforced in any way at all).

Mahmoud Achmadinasshole was speaking at the UN today, and it made me think of John McCain's "Bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-Iran" line. Then I got in my car and heard this song... anyone wishing someone would drop something, even a water balloon, on Achmadinadouchebag? Anyway, the Gap Band is a bit of a classic, and Phillies fans remember it as the Citizens Bank Park theme song for home runs by Pat Burrell.
For the record, I'm pretty sure that this is the first blog post to mention the psychotic leader of Iran, the Gap Band, and a former Phillies left fielder in the same paragraph. I'm all about setting records.

I had no idea that this song created a massive copyright fight with the Rolling Stones. In any case, it's a great song with a great video -- simple but in keeping with the song. And it really does get stuck in your head.

This song is actually on my playlist, and I actually like it. No smartass commentary right now, except to note that the name "Carolina Liar" would be a great fit for John Edwards.

I'm not sure if this song qualifies as annoying or not. I always think of it as being so bad, it's good, if that makes sense. And if it doesn't make sense... well, I'm not sure I care. Amazingly, the band is still together. Actually, maybe Swedish hard rock/glam metal bands are renowned for their longevity. I suggest some liberal arts major do his or her thesis on this topic -- it's not like you're going to get hired in this economy anyway.

As if this song needs an introduction. It spawned this gawdawful video and the horrific A Night at the Roxbury, which should be erased from existence, although you could make the case that it sucks so much that's it not worth the effort. You would be wrong, but it's a free country.

This band sets a new mark for this category -- I merely saw their name mentioned on a web post today, and this song popped into my head. Frankly, the Gallagher brothers are just weird. I know they've had substantial success since this song, but it's either this or "Champagne Supernova" that pops into my head when I hear the name Oasis. And to this day, I'm still mystified by what a Wonderwall might be.
